not the flu

That, my dear friends, is a link to an article, among many dialogues related to this subject, that really boils my water.

In summation, Merck, one of the USs largest pharmacuetical companies, is trying to push for government legislation of a vaccine for HPV. Why is big business pushing for any kind of legislation? ...not to be ignorant, I know they do it all the time. But so openly?

Who is teaching our young women? If you can't answer me that, tell me WHAT we are teaching our young women? Nothing. Passivity, absence of understanding and wise judgement. The message is: "your body really isn't your own. You have no control, no strength. Just let us take care of you since you are incapable."

If you watch primetime television at all, you have seen the commercials for Gardasil. Their motto is "One less." One who will not fall victim of HPV. HELLO! You get HPV by almost having sex with someone who carries the virus. It's not the flu. It's contracted by people who don't know or aren't cognizant enough to ask whether or not the person they are messing around with has HPV. Who does that anyway? "Well, since we're going to hook up, what's your diagnosis?"

...it's a disease and it's highly contagious, and I don't mean to be hard-hearted about the subject or toward people who have it. But I hate the messages it sends. I am not weak nor am I uneducated. HPV is an STD. If you don't have sex irresponsibly you don't get HPV. It's the sweet little thing we call self-control. However, can a 9 year old (check the website) practice self-control?

I'm sure politicians wouldn't do anything that's not in our best interest.
